About Our Farm
Nestled in the rolling hills of the De Luz community in Temecula, De Luz Family Farms has been rooted in sustainable agriculture for over three decades. What began more than 30 years ago with avocados and grapefruit has grown into a diversified farm now venturing into passionfruit, always with the same guiding principle: to farm differently, with respect for the land and the ecosystems that depend on it.
Our 40-acre family farm is committed to minimizing environmental impact through innovative farming practices and technology. We never use non-organic pesticides or fungicides—instead, we rely on beneficial predators and the natural balance of our ecosystem to keep our crops healthy. Our regenerative soil health practices focus on building organic matter, enhancing fertility, and sequestering carbon for the long term.
Bees are an integral part of our farm, and because we keep our own hives, we’re deeply mindful of the choices we make when it comes to chemical use. A year-round stream winds its way through our property, creating a haven for wildlife and beneficial species. This natural water source also reminds us of our responsibility to protect California’s waterways by carefully managing nutrients, especially nitrogen, so nothing leaches into the environment.
At De Luz Family Farms, we believe farming should work in harmony with nature. By combining traditional wisdom with modern technology, we’re creating a thriving ecosystem where plants, pollinators, and people can all flourish together.
Our Passionfruit Story
Years ago, our friend Bob handed us a single vine in a pot. We placed it by an old oak tree, never imagining what it might become. The pot eventually cracked, and the roots reached down into the soil, weaving themselves into the earth and even competing with the oak. Within just a few years, the vine had climbed and completely engulfed the tree in a blanket of green.
Then came the first fruit. Tasting fresh passionfruit straight from the vine was a revelation—the flavor was unlike anything else, and from that moment on, we were hooked. What began as a single gifted vine soon became a dream: to grow this incredible fruit on a larger scale, to share its vibrant flavor with more people, and to introduce others to the same sense of wonder we felt with that very first taste.
Passionfruit isn’t just something we grow—it’s part of our story, rooted in friendship, curiosity, and the joy of discovering something worth sharing.
Our Bees, Our Partners
Bees are more than pollinators—they’re partners in everything we do. Our farm provides housing and refuge for native pollinators and honeybee swarms, giving them a safe place to thrive. While many traditional bee companies may euthanize swarms, we’ve chosen a different path: we work with local beekeepers to welcome them here, where they become part of our farm’s ecosystem.
Our orchards and vines depend on these pollinators, so every decision we make begins with their wellbeing. We are extremely selective about the chemicals we use, always mindful of protecting the delicate balance that keeps our bees healthy. We also work to provide a natural, year-round nectar source so they can stay busy and supported through every season.
Caring for our bees is caring for our land. Their health ensures the vitality of our crops, the strength of our soil, and the sweetness of every harvest we share.
